FEI President welcomes “long overdue” Congress on NSAIDs

FEI President HRH Princess Haya welcomed the FEI initiative to hold a Congress on Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAID) Usage and Medication in the Equine Athlete, declaring it as long overdue and the first real opportunity to bring together all the new science on NSAIDs since the FEI’s 1993 ban on their use in competition.  »

Three-month suspension for US rider Michael Morrissey

Michael Morrissey (USA) has been suspended for three months and issued a yellow card with retroactive disqualification for excessive use of the whip in class 101 at the Wellington CSI 2* held on 27 February 2010. Mr Morrissey has also been subjected to a fine of CHF 2,000. The suspension from FEI competition will run from 5 May to 4 August, concurrent with the three-month suspension imposed on Mr Morrissey by the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF).  »

Bob Ellis appointed as Jumping course designer for London 2012

Bob Ellis (GBR) has been appointed as the Jumping course designer for the London 2012 Olympic Games. The appointment of the British designer, who produced the courses for last year’s Alltech FEI European Jumping Championships, was announced by London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG).  »

SPAIN FIRST TO GO IN ST GALLEN

Heavy overnight rain, and further downpours this morning, resulted in the cancellation of jumping events at the Grundenmoos Arena in St Gallen, Switzerland today. However the weather has now improved significantly, and the third leg of the 2010 Meydan FEI Nations Cup™ will go ahead as scheduled tomorrow afternoon beginning at 13.30 local time when the team from Spain will be first into the ring.  »

FEI WORLD CUP™ DRESSAGE 2009/2010 - REVISED LIST FOR FINAL

The line-up for the final of the 2009/2010 FEI World Cup™ Dressage series which will take place at 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands from 25-27 March has been revised. The USA and Canadian Federations have confirmed that, due to health issues for either horses or riders, there will be no representatives from the North American League, so the two available slots will now be taken by reserve riders Tinne Vilhelmson Silfven from Sweden and Poland's Katarzyna Milczarek who previously applied for any available extra starting places.  »

THE EUROPEAN EQUESTRIAN FEDERATION FORMED

International horse sport has a new European association, the European Equestrian Federation (EEF). The new body was established today (18th February) by 27 European National Federations present at a meeting in Warendorf (Germany). This process commenced at a meeting of European National Federations in Deauville (France) in March 2009 and was agreed in principle in Antwerp (Belgium) in September 2009. The Federation was officially formed today (18th February 2010), following the signing of the Statutes by National Federations. It is anticipated that other European Federations and other representative groups, who could not be present at the meeting, will also adopt the new Statutes.  »

FEI ROUND TABLE CONFERENCE RESOLVES ROLLKUR CONTROVERSY

Following constructive debate at the FEI round-table conference at the IOC Headquarters in Lausanne today (9 February), the consensus of the group was that any head and neck position achieved through aggressive force is not acceptable. The group redefined hyperflexion/Rollkur as flexion of the horse’s neck achieved through aggressive force, which is therefore unacceptable. The technique known as Low, Deep and Round (LDR), which achieves flexion without undue force, is acceptable.  »

DECISION CONCERNING RELEGATION OF TEAMS FROM THE MEYDAN FEI NATIONS CUP™

Following consultation with National Federations, riders and event organisers, the FEI Bureau today decided that Great Britain and Belgium will both be relegated from the Meydan FEI Nations Cup™. The two teams finished the 2009 season in eighth place on equal points ahead of the Italians, who are also relegated.  »

The Real Club de Polo in Barcelona, Spain plays host to this weekend's Meydan FEI Nations Cup™ Promotional League Final.The venue staged the equestrian events of the 1992 Olympic Games and, more recently, the finals of the six-year-long Samsung Super League series. A total of seven countries have qualified to contest for the two available places in the top-level Meydan FEI Nations Cup™ series in 2010. Those places will be decided by the result of next Sunday afternoon's final competition.  »
