MARA DEAN IS FIRST OFF THE MARK IN 2010 HSBC FEI WORLD CUP™ EVENTING
Mara Dean (USA) has become the first rider to post a winning score on the HSBC FEI World Cup™ Eventing leaderboard, following an emotional pillar-to-post victory in the Florida sunshine at the Red Hills International CIC***-W at Tallahassee (USA).Riding her veteran 15-year-old Irish-bred Nicky Henley, who was coming back into competition after sustaining a tendon injury at the 2007 Pan-Am Games, Virginia-based Dean held off the always serious challenge of Phillip Dutton (USA), riding Truluck, 4th at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials (GBR) last year. »

JESSICA AND LIBERTINA TAKE GOTHENBURG BY STORMJESSICA AND LIBERTINA TAKE GOTHENBURG BY STORM
Ireland's Jessica Kuerten nearly brought the roof down at the Scandinavium arena in Gothenburg, Sweden today with a rip-roaring ride from Castle Forbes Libertina that scooped their second victory of the 2009/2010 Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping season. It's getting down to the wire now with only one qualifying leg remaining and every precious point counting towards a place at the series final in Geneva, but Kuerten has cruised into a qualifying spot with the greatest of ease and today's victory suggests she will be one of the favourites when the final kicks off at the Swiss venue next month. Germany's Marco Kutscher galloped into second place with the deceptively fast Cash while former World Champion Dermott Lennon slotted into third with the gelding Hallmark Elite which, he says "has the makings of another Libertina". If he is right about that then Irish show jumping is in very good shape indeed. --Jessica Kurten riding Castle Forbes Libertina IRL Winner. Copyright: Kit Houghton/FEI. »

COOL CORNELISSEN AND PLACID PARZIVAL TOP LAST QUALIFIER AT GOTHENBURG
Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival kept their cool under intense pressure to win the last qualifying leg of the 2009/2010 FEI World Cup™ Dressage series in Gothenburg, Sweden tonight. Sweden's Patrik Kittel produced the ride of his life with Watermill Scandic to slot into second place, but the real battle was played out between the Dutch who were vying for the two remaining places on offer to home side contenders at the Final in 's-Hertogenbosch in The Netherlands in four weeks time. League leader Edward Gal was clearly always going to make the cut but Cornelissen, Imke Schellekens-Bartels and Anky Van Grunsven knew that tonight would decide which of them would join him. And in this battle of the giants it was winner Cornelissen and third-placed Schellekens-Bartels who earned their stripes while nine-time World Cup champion Van Grunsven just missed out when finishing fourth. »

TOTILAS IS UNTOUCHABLE AGAIN AT NEUMUNSTER
Edward Gal's sensational run in the 2009/2010 FEI World Cup™ Dressage series continued at Neumunster in Germany today where he recorded his third victory with Moorlands Totilas as they continue to take this sport by storm. Wherever he goes, the record-breaking 10 year old black stallion lights a fire of excitement, and the capacity crowd at the German venue could hardly contain their excitement when witnessing him in action on their home ground. Neumunster is in the heart of Holsteiner country, and jumping is very much the local passion. But Totilas carries a spell-binding quality that captures the heart of every horse-lover, and the roar of approval from the 4,800 spectators in the Holstenhallen as this special horse stole the limelight once again told the full story. WISE SOCRATES GIVES EDWINA THE EDGE IN VIGO-with a little help from YouTube!
Australia's Edwina Alexander scooped maximum points at the eleventh leg of the 2009/2010 Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping series in Vigo, Spain tonight with a brilliant performance from Cevo Socrates. In the 11-horse jump-off the 15 year old gelding showed the wisdom of his years when producing a classy, clean and confident round that was simply too good for the rest. And this latest result has rocketed Alexander up to fourth place on the series table with just two more qualifying legs remaining. »

Coudry pleases the Bordeaux public
After a competition full of surprises and unexpected incidents, it was home driver Thibault Coudry who claimed first prize in the last FEI World Cup™ Competition in Bordeaux, France. Sweden’s Tomas Eriksson and Switzerland’s Werner Ulrich miraculously finished second with the exact same score. Favourite drivers IJsbrand Chardon and second wild card driver Daniel Würgler had to deal with the combination of bad luck and too much pressure, and ended at the bottom of the results list. »

MARCUS TIMES IT TO PERFECTION IN BORDEAUX
Germany's Marcus Ehning has won a few Rolex watches in his time, but he has rarely had to work harder for one of the exquisite time-pieces than he did tonight when winning the tenth qualifying leg of the 2009/2010 Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping series at Bordeaux in France. At the end of the toughest competition of the series to date, where the course proved too much for the vast majority, Ehning went into a two-way jump-off against fellow-countryman Philipp Weishaupt. And despite all his enormous experience, the man who was first to wear the new green and gold armband as leading rider in the Rolex World Rankings when it was first introduced last December, had to ride for his life to win by the miniscule margin of one-hundredth of a second with Leconte. Switzerland's Steve Guerdat produced a supremely confident victory in the ninth leg of the 2009/2010 Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping series on his home turf at Zurich, Switzerland this afternoon. IT'S LADIES DAY AT LEIPZIG - AND A THREE-TIMER FOR JESSICA
The ladies dominated the line-up at the eighth leg of the Rolex FEI World Cup™ series in Leipzig, Germany today where Ireland's Jessica Kuerten produced a devastating burst of speed to pip runner-up Edwina Alexander from Australia and third-placed Frenchwoman Penelope Leprevost in a 16-way jump-off. The girls simply out-galloped the boys against the clock, and this was a particularly notable victory for Kuerten who also won this leg of the series in both 2008 and 2009 and so made it a Leipzig hat-trick today. »

GAL AND TOTILAS ON TOP IN AMSTERDAM
The Netherlands' Edward Gal and Moorlands Totilas swept to victory in the seventh leg of the FEI World Cup™ Dressage series in Amsterdam this afternoon to rocket up to the top of the series leaderboard. Once again thrilling both judges and spectators alike, the dynamic Dutch duo recorded a score of 87.70% as they high-stepped their way to success with their unique sparkle and panache. But the most remarkable thing about today's competition was the exceptionally high level of performance throughout the entire class. The sport of dressage has raised its game in dramatic fashion over the past 12 months, and horses and riders are meeting the challenge head-on. »

SATO SPRINGS A BIG SURPRISE AT MECHELEN
Japan's Eiken Sato sprung a massive surprise when scooping the honours in the seventh leg of the 2009/2010 Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping series in Mechelen, Belgium today. With his 10 year old stallion BV Project Cartoon Z the relatively unknown 23 year old from Nagano produced one of eight first-round clears over the massive track built by Lucien Somers and with youthful enthusiasm then devastated the opposition with a daredevil ride against the clock. Ireland's Jessica Kuerten had to settle for second with her great mare Castle Forbes Libertina while the host country's Patrick McEntee and Ever Mury Marais Z slotted into third.XXXXXXXSato looked as cool as a cucumber while executing his historic victory, but with a great tremble in his voice he said afterwards "I have this most wonderful horse, and I am so lucky. The Netherlands' Edward Gal and Moorlands Totillas set a new world record in the Grand Prix Freestyle for the third time this year when scoring 92.30% to win the fourth leg of the FEI World Cup™ Dressage series at the Grand Hall at Olympia in London tonight. With another breath-taking performance that put him in an entirely different class to the rest of the 13-strong field, the nine year old stallion showed even more confidence than he displayed when taking Freestyle gold at the Alltech FEI European Championships at Windsor last August. Stockholm winner Adelinde Cornelissen had a difficult evening with Parzival who was gripped with nervous tension and failed to give of his best, but this Dutch duo still held on for second place, while British hearts were lifted by a great third-spot finish for one of their all-time favourites, Carl Hester with Liebling 11. »

At Torino in Italy in 2007 they broke the spell that had provided Germany with absolute dominance of the team title over the previous 42 years, and the biggest problem Dutch Chef d'Equipe, Sjef Janssen, has faced this summer has been deciding which of his sparkling choice of riders to leave out of his side. It's a challenge a lot of the other national selectors would have liked to have been facing - particularly Germany's team coach Holger Schmezer. »

RELEGATION OF TEAMS FROM THE MEYDAN FEI NATIONS CUP™ -
The issue of team relegation from the Meydan FEI Nations Cup™ is currently being discussed.
Following the final leg of the Meydan FEI Nations Cup™ at the Royal Dublin Horse Show on 7 August, two teams – Great Britain and Belgium – tied for second-to-last place and were consequently faced with relegation from the series as the Rules provide for relegation for the 9th and 10th placed teams. The interpretation of the Rules could lead to two different relegation outcomes. Hence the case was presented by the FEI Headquarters to the Bureau for discussion. Presented with the possibility of handing the matter over to the FEI Tribunal, the Bureau unanimously felt that a decision must be taken in the best interest of the sport. Bureau members took into consideration the fact that the Equestrian Community is a family, and that the governing body has a responsibility to translate its own rules in a sporting fashion and to understand clearly the pressures that are faced by the National Federations and athletes as a result of the current economic hardships. Failure to field a team in the Nations Cup series will definitely put severe pressure on National Federations to seek sponsorship from governments, National Olympic Committees, and commercial partners. Hence it was unanimously agreed that, subject to seeking permission from the Show Organizers, who would obviously bear the pressure of additional horses, neither team should be relegated for next season. »
