SALZGEBER REIGNS SUPREME AS GERMANY DOMINATES
Germany's Ulla Salzgeber and her reliable chestnut Herzruf’s Erbe won the fifth leg of the Reem Acra FEI World Cup™ Dressage series in the festive surroundings of the Frankfurter Festhalle in Frankfurt today. The victory was the more remarkable as Salzgeber had not been able to practice her Freestyle in a full size arena of 20 by 60 meters before the competition. The German dressage star is in the middle of moving her training facility closer to her yard in order to have more fields surrounding her stable and training centre, so she was delighted with today's result. German riders filled the top three places and five of the top six slots on their home turf today, Denmark's Princess Nathalie Zu Sayn-Wittgenstein preventing them from achieving a total white-wash when slotting into fourth. by Claartje van Andel. »

EMOTIONAL MICHAEL WHITAKER WINS COVETED OLYMPIA CROWN
Emotion ran high as Great Britain's Michael Whitaker celebrated his spectacular victory in today's seventh leg of the 2010/2011 Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping series at Olympia in London. The 50 year old Yorkshire-born rider was almost speechless with delight after seeing off a class field that included second-placed Irishman Billy Twomey and World No. 1 Kevin Staut from France who had to settle for third. Whitaker choked back the tears in a post-competition TV interview - "the draw had a lot to do with it" he said modestly, but this did little justice to the skill with which he steered his 10 year old gelding home to an explosion of applause from the ecstatic home crowd. Colombia's Santiago Diaz Ortega claimed gold at the 2010 FEI World Jumping Challenge Final staged in Guatemala City, Guatemala last weekend. Competitors ride borrowed horses in this Challenge which was created in 2001, and there is a "change-horse" format in the Final Four competition which decides the medals on the last day. »

STAUT AND SILVANA SCORCH TO VICTORY IN GENEVA
Kevin Staut and Silvana de Hus scorched to victory today in the sixth leg of the 2010/2011 Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping series at Geneva in Switzerland. The 30 year old Frenchman, who continues to hold the No. 1 spot in the Rolex World Rankings and who was already leading the Western European League series going into today's competition, produced a last-to-go run that squeezed Olympic champion Eric Lamaze from Canada out of the top spot while Sweden's Rolf-Goran Bengtsson finished third ahead of Germany's Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum in fourth. HADDAD POISED TO SNATCH LEAD FROM WERTH AT THE FOURTH LEG IN LONDON
Isabell Werth, a double-winner so far this season, holds a slender lead as the 2010/2011 Reem Acra FEI World Cup™ Dressage Western European League series moves to the hugely popular Christmas Show at Olympia in London next week. However Werth's decision to skip the British fixture and to aim instead for the following leg on her home turf in Frankfurt four days later has left the door wide open for second-placed Catherine Haddad to forge ahead in the rankings. GERMANS CLINCH TEAM JUMPING GOLD IN A THRILLER
Germany swept to a crisp, clean victory in the Team Jumping Championship at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ in Kentucky, USA tonight. And a new page of jumping history was written, when, for the very first time, a victorious German Championship side included two lady riders. Janne Friederike Meyer and Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum joined forces with Carsten-Otto Nagel and Marcus Ehning to clinch gold ahead of France in silver and the surprising Belgians who took bronze. The Belgians have been competing in the Promotional League in recent seasons, but, already set to return to the top-level Meydan FEI Nations Cup™ series in 2011 after topping the rankings in the second-division series this year, they must now be considered a serious force to be reckoned with once again. --The German team take the gold medal in the Team Jumping competiton. GERMANY JUMPS AHEAD ON TEAM LEADERBOARD
SAUDI ARABIA'S AL EID HEADS INDIVIDUAL RANKING
As the American team lost their grip on pole position, Germany snatched the lead in the Jumping Championship at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ in Kentucky, USA today. And, lying fifth overnight, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Khaled Al Eid rocketed to the top of the individual leaderboard when all those ahead of him faltered. The 41 year old Saudi rider added just a single time penalty to his tally in an otherwise flawless performance from his stallion, Presley Boy, but the 2000 Olympic bronze medallist has his tutor, Brazil's Rodrigo Pessoa, breathing down his neck going into tomorrow's next Championship leg. It's going to be a hard-fought battle for the 2010 individual title, with only a fence dividing the top 13 riders heading into the third day of competition.Marcus Ehning (GER) on Plot Bleu .The German team leading after the first day of team jumping.Copyright: Dirk Caremans/FEI. »

In a nail-biting conclusion to the Eventing Championship at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ in Kentucky today, the British stood firm to claim team gold and Germany's Michael Jung did likewise to take the individual title. Jung's win was delivered with consummate ease when, last into the arena, he produced another flawless performance from his 10 year old gelding La Biosthetique Sam. And Britain's William Fox-Pitt, whose polished ride with Cool Mountain secured individual silver, paid the highest compliment to the winner, who led the competition from the outset. Asked what he thought of the German rider's result he said "quite honestly it's a case of Michael Jung - 1, the rest - nowhere! He's so far ahead we've all got our work cut out for us for the next two years!" British gold medal winning eventing team: L to R. Nicola Wilson, Kristina Cook, William Fox-Pitt and Mary King. McCUTCHEON GRABS REINING GOLD
America reclaimed the individual World Championship title at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ in The Horse Park at Kentucky, USA this afternoon, but it wasn't the hot favourite, Shawn Flarida, who stood tall and proud as the host nation's flag was raised. The loss of a stirrup would cost the 2002 World Champion dearly, and it was team-mate and fellow gold medallist in last Sunday's team event Tom McCutcheon who stood top of the podium. - Story by Louise Parkes for Sport-heute.ch - Pictures Copyright: Peter Nixon/FEI. »

GERMANS TAKE STRONG LEAD ON FIRST DAY OF DRESSAGE

Great Britain's William Fox-Pitt and his 2010 Rolex Kentucky 4-Star winner Cool Mountain were the only ones to break the German strangelhold when slotting into third, and his result, combined with that of Nicola Wilson (Opposition Buzz) has ensured fourth place for the British in the team rankings going into tomorrow's closing stage of the dressage phase. »

GAL AND TOTILAS TRIUMPH AT S'HERTOGENBOSCH FINAL
The Netherlands' Edward Gal and the super-stallion Moorlands Totilas overcame all the pressure and tension to claim the 25th anniversary FEI World Cup™ Dressage title in s'Hertogenbosch this afternoon. Gal's stallion was tipped to take the honours throughout the entire 2009/2010 FEI World Cup™ Dressage season during which he secured his third record-breaking score of 2009 at London Olympia last December. But two days ago fellow-Dutch rider Adelinde Cornelissen took advantage of an edgy test from her team-mate to win the preliminary Grand Prix with a great performance from Jerich Parzival, and for the first time in a long while, Gal's stallion began to look vulnerable. COOL CORNELISSEN AND PLACID PARZIVAL TOP LAST QUALIFIER AT GOTHENBURG

Sweden's Patrik Kittel produced the ride of his life with Watermill Scandic to slot into second place, but the real battle was played out between the Dutch who were vying for the two remaining places on offer to home side contenders at the Final in 's-Hertogenbosch in The Netherlands in four weeks time. Wherever he goes, the record-breaking 10 year old black stallion lights a fire of excitement, and the capacity crowd at the German venue could hardly contain their excitement when witnessing him in action on their home ground. Neumunster is in the heart of Holsteiner country, and jumping is very much the local passion. But Totilas carries a spell-binding quality that captures the heart of every horse-lover, and the roar of approval from the 4,800 spectators in the Holstenhallen as this special horse stole the limelight once again told the full story. At Torino in Italy in 2007 they broke the spell that had provided Germany with absolute dominance of the team title over the previous 42 years, and the biggest problem Dutch Chef d'Equipe, Sjef Janssen, has faced this summer has been deciding which of his sparkling choice of riders to leave out of his side. RELEGATION OF TEAMS FROM THE MEYDAN FEI NATIONS CUP™ -
The issue of team relegation from the Meydan FEI Nations Cup™ is currently being discussed.
Following the final leg of the Meydan FEI Nations Cup™ at the Royal Dublin Horse Show on 7 August, two teams – Great Britain and Belgium – tied for second-to-last place and were consequently faced with relegation from the series as the Rules provide for relegation for the 9th and 10th placed teams. The interpretation of the Rules could lead to two different relegation outcomes. Hence the case was presented by the FEI Headquarters to the Bureau for discussion. Presented with the possibility of handing the matter over to the FEI Tribunal, the Bureau unanimously felt that a decision must be taken in the best interest of the sport. Bureau members took into consideration the fact that the Equestrian Community is a family, and that the governing body has a responsibility to translate its own rules in a sporting fashion and to understand clearly the pressures that are faced by the National Federations and athletes as a result of the current economic hardships. Failure to field a team in the Nations Cup series will definitely put severe pressure on National Federations to seek sponsorship from governments, National Olympic Committees, and commercial partners. Hence it was unanimously agreed that, subject to seeking permission from the Show Organizers, who would obviously bear the pressure of additional horses, neither team should be relegated for next season. »
