Dritter Etappensieg für Nani Roma im MINI ALL4 Racing

Stéphane Peterhansel baut Vorsprung in der Gesamtwertung aus

Es war eine erfolgreiche zehnte Etappe von Antofagasta nach Arica für das Monster Energy X-raid Team. Der Spanier Nani Roma und sein französischer Beifahrer Michel Périn sicherten sich im gelben Monster Energy MINI ALL4 Racing ihren dritten Tagessieg bei der diesjährigen Dakar. Nur 21 Sekunden langsamer waren ihre französischen Teamkollegen Stéphane Peterhansel und Jean-Paul Cottret im grünen Monster Energy MINI ALL4 Racing. Mit diesem zweiten Platz und Problemen bei Robby Gordon konnten sie ihren Vorsprung in der Gesamtwertung auf 19.51 Minuten ausbauen. (mk) Für Schulz, den Co-Piloten von Novitskiy, war diese Etappe die bisher schwierigste. „Die Navigation war nicht einfach und auch die Dünen waren schwieriger als gedacht“, so der Deutsche. Zu Beginn war die Strecke zwar schnell, aber mit viel Fech-Fech und dadurch Staub. Den gleichen Untergrund erlebten die Piloten nach dem harten Dünenfeld.

Roma ist momentan der Pilot mit den meisten Etappensiegen der Dakar 2012. Heute sicherte er sich Sieg Nummer drei. „Der Erfolg ist für mein Team, das so hart an meinem Auto arbeitet“, so der Katalane. „Für mich kann ich nur sagen, dass mit jedem Kilometer der Spaß steigt. Dieses Gefühl habe ich in den letzten Jahren vermisst.“ In der Gesamtwertung konnte er wieder an Gordon vorbeiziehen und den zweiten Rang übernehmen.

Auch für Peterhansel war es ein guter Tag. Zwar wurde er hinter Roma Zweiter, doch der Vorsprung in der Gesamtwertung auf Gordon beträgt nun fast 20 Minuten. „Aber wir haben noch ein paar Tage vor uns“, beschwichtigt der Franzose. „Wir haben gesehen, wie schnell etwas passieren kann.“ Für das französische Duo gestaltete sich die 377 Kilometer lange Prüfung ohne Probleme. „Wir haben Gordon beobachtet, wie er eine sehr enge Kurve nicht bekommen hat und einen Graben runtergefallen ist. Wir haben geschaut, ob er sich überschlagen hat. Aber er fuhr auf seinen vier Rädern und musste wohl später anhalten.“

Novitskiy und Schulz sind zufrieden mit ihrem sechsten Tagesrang. „Für diese schwere Etappe haben wir ein tolles Ergebnis eingefahren“, freut sich Schulz. Das Duo kam ohne größere Probleme durch die Prüfung und verlor nur etwas Zeit bei der schwierigen Navigation. Einen Platz hinter ihnen kamen die Portugiesen Dos Santos und Fiuza ins Ziel.

Großes Pech hatte heute das polnisch, belgische Duo Krzysztof Holowczyc / Jean-Marc Fortin: Sie bleiben zunächst mit defekter Servolenkung stehen und verloren wertvolle Zeit. Später blieb er stecken und bei dem Versuch, ihn herauszuziehen, riss das Seil und zerschlug den Kühler. Der Pole musste auf den X-raid Racetruck warten, um den Kühler zu reparieren.

Auch die drei BMW X3 CC fuhren gute Ergebnisse ein. Das chilenisch, französische Duo Boris Garafulic / Gilles Picard schaffte nach den gestrigen Problemen heute zum ersten Mal den Sprung in die Top 10. Sie platzieren den Vision Advisors BMW X3 CC auf Rang neun. „Wir konnten viele Konkurrenten, darunter auch Trucks, überholen“, freute sich der Chilene. „Die Dünen waren heute richtig hart.“ Die Deutschen Stephan Schott / Holm Schmidt fuhren im KS Tools BMW X3 CC auf Platz 13 und die beiden Russen Alexander Mironenko / Sergey Lebedev im BUER BMW X3 CC auf Position 19. Sie hatten Chancen auf ein besseres Ergebnis, fuhren sich jedoch im Sand fest.

Third special-stage win for Nani Roma in the MINI ALL4 Racing

• Stéphane Peterhansel extends his overall lead

• All the BMW X3 CC make it to the top 20, today

The 10th special stage – from Antofagasta to Arica – proved to be a very successful one the Monster Energy X-raid Team. With their yellow Monster Energy MINI ALL4 Racing, Spaniard Nani Roma and his French co-driver Michel Périn celebrated their third special stage win in this year’s edition of the Dakar Rally. Just 21 seconds behind them, their French team-mates Stéphane Peterhansel and Jean-Paul Cottret took their green Monster Energy MINI ALL4 Racing to second position, thus extending their lead over Robby Gordon in the overall standings to 19:51 minutes. Meanwhile, Leonid Novitskiy (RUS) / Andi Schulz (GER) in the orange Monster Energy MINI ALL4 Racing and the two Portuguese Ricardo Leal dos Santos / Paulo Fiuza in the red sister car set exactly the same time to finish sixth and seventh respectively.

For Schulz, the navigator of Novitskiy, this special stage turned out to be the most difficult one so far. “Navigating was anything but easy and the dunes also proved to be more difficult than expected,” said the German. At the beginning, the track was fast but covered by a lot of Fech-Fech sand, resulting in loads of dust. And following the hard dune field, the drivers had to cope with another dose of these conditions.

Roma currently is the driver who has secured more special stage wins in the 2012 Dakar than anybody else. Today, he celebrated special stage win No 3. “This success is for my team that is working on my car day for day and extremely hard,” underlined the Catalan. “When it comes to me, I just can say that the fun is getting bigger kilometre by kilometre. That’s a feeling I missed in the past years.” In the overall standings, he re-passed Robby Gordon and is back in second position, now.

Peterhansel also had a nice day. Although he had to settle for finishing second behind Roma, he increased his lead over Gordon in the overall standings to nearly 20 minutes. “But we shouldn’t forget that there still are several days to go,” warned the Frenchman. “Yesterday, we had to witness how fast something can go wrong. We saw Gordon going off in a tight corner and falling into a ditch. We checked if he had somersaulted but he was continuing on his four wheels and obviously had to stop later.”

Novitskiy and Schulz are happy with having finished sixth, in today’s special stage. “In consideration of the fact that this special stage was extremely difficult it’s a fantastic result,” beamed Schulz. The pairing didn’t encounter any major technical problems but lost some time due to the difficult navigation. Right behind them, Portuguese pairing Dos Santos / Fiuza finished seventh.

Polish-Belgian pairing Krzysztof Holowczyc / Jean-Marc Fortin, however, weren’t that lucky. At first, they had to stop due to a broken power steering, thus losing valuable time. Later they gut stuck and when another competitor tried to tow them out, the tow rope broke, hit the radiator and destroyed it. So, they had to wait for the X-raid truck to have the radiator repaired.

The three BMW X3 CC vehicles also secured good results. Chilean-French pairing Boris Garafulic / Gilles Picard who had been in problems, yesterday, made it to the top 10 for the first time. They finished ninth, with their Vision Advisors BMW X3 CC. “We passed a lot of competitors,” beamed the Chilean, “And some of them were trucks. Nonetheless, the Dunes were really tough, today.” The Germans Stephan Schott / Holm Schmidt took their KS Tools BMW X3 CC to 13th position, with the two Russians Alexander Mironenko and Sergey Lebedev in the BUER BMW X3 CC coming 19th. They had the chance of securing an even better result but then, they got stuck in the sand.
