Stéphane Peterhansel kann Gesamtführung halten

Stéphane Peterhansel fährt zweitschnellste Zeit

Seit dem Start der Rallye Dakar 2012 vor zehn Tagen in Mar del Plata hat das Monster Energy X-raid Team in der Gesamtwertung die Nase vorne. Auch heute konnten die beiden Franzosen Stéphane Peterhansel und sein Co-Pilot Jean-Paul Cottret im grünen Monster Energy MINI ALL4 Racing mit dem zweiten Platz hinter Robby Gordon die Gesamtführung für das Team aus Trebur halten. Das spanisch, französische Duo Nani Roma / Michel Périn eröffnete im gelben Monster Energy MINI ALL4 Racing die Etappe und beendete den Tag auf dem dritten Rang. Zürich, 11.1.12 Red. (mk) Der Pole Krzysztof Holowczyc und sein belgischer Co-Pilot Jean-Marc Fortin kamen trotz eines Überschlages des ORLEN MINI ALL4 Racing auf dem vierten Rang ins Ziel. Die Portugiesen Ricardo Leal dos Santos / Paulo Fiuza im roten Monster Energy MINI ALL4 Racing und das russisch, deutsche Duo Leonid Novitskiy / Andi Schulz im orangnen Monster Energy MINI ALL4 Racing erreichten die Plätze fünf und acht.

Auch die heutige Etappe war in zwei Prüfungen unterteilt: der erste Abschnitt war rund 400 Kilometer lang, der zweite rund 90 km – unterteilt durch eine 129 Kilometer lange Neutralisation. Der Veranstalter hatte kurzfristig zahlreiche Änderungen am Roadbook vornehmen müssen. Grund waren unter anderem Regenfälle und Bauarbeiten. Die Strecke selbst zeichnete sich erneut durch viele steinige Passagen aus. „Aber heute war es schöner zu fahren“, so Peterhansel. „Besonders der erste Abschnitt der zweiten Prüfung war sehr technisch – hat auf jeden Fall viel Spaß gemacht.“ Die Piloten durchquerten allerdings erst gegen Ende eine kurze Passage mit Sand und Dünen.

Obwohl für Peterhansel der gewünschte Sand wieder ausgeblieben ist, konnte er mit dem zweiten Rang die Führung in der Gesamtwertung halten. Allerdings kostete ihn ein Reifenschaden einige Minuten. „Wir waren im seitlichen Drift und ich habe den Stein schon gesehen“, erzählt Peterhansel. „Ich habe noch gehofft, dass es reicht, aber dann gab es schon den großen Schlag.“

Nach seinem gestrigen Sieg fuhr Roma heute die drittschnellste Zeit ein. Zu Beginn der Etappe hatte ihn Gordon überholen können und ab dann hing der Spanier in dessen Staub fest. „Der Wind kam von vorne und die Staubwolke war enorm“, berichtet Roma. „Das hat uns einige Minuten gekostet.“ In der Gesamtwertung liegt er weiterhin auf dem vierten Platz.

Ein aufregendes Ende erlebten Holowczyc und Fortin rund 20 Kilometer vor dem Ende. Sie hatten an einer Kreuzung eine falsche Route gewählt, Zuschauer wiesen ihnen den richtigen Weg. Als der Pole auf den richtigen Weg auffahren wollte, übersahen sie eine Stufe und das Fahrzeug rollte aufs Dach. „Die Stufe war für uns nicht zu sehen. Zum Glück konnten wir den MINI wieder auf seine Räder bringen und weiterfahren“, berichtet Fortin. Dem MINI ALL4 Racing sieht man den Überschlag kaum an. Nur der kaputte Außenspiegel und die gesprungene Windschutzscheibe deuten äußerlich das Abenteuer an.

Das portugiesische Duo Dos Santos / Fiuza kam ohne größere Probleme durch die Prüfung, musste jedoch auch wegen einem Platten anhalten. Wie auch ihre Teamkollegen Novitskiy und Schulz. „Die zweite Prüfung ist heute super für uns gelaufen“, berichtet der Deutsche. „Leider war der erste Abschnitt nicht so schön. Ich denke, die Etappen heute und morgen werden hart für uns.“

Die beiden Russen Alexander Mironenko und Sergey Lebedev kamen im BUER BMW X3 CC auf der 14. Position ins Ziel und liegen im Gesamtklassement derzeit auf Platz 20.

Since the 2012 Dakar Rally was started 10 days ago in Mar del Plata, Argentina, the Monster Energy X-raid Team has been holding the overall lead on every single day. And in today’s special stage, Stéphane Peterhansel and his navigator Jean-Paul Cottret (both France) once again succeeded in defending their overall lead for the Trebur based team by taking their green Monster Energy MINI ALL4 Racing to second position behind Robby Gordon. Spanish-French pairing Nani Roma / Michel Périn kicked-off today’s special stage, with their yellow Monster Energy MINI ALL4 Racing – and finished third.

Despite having somersaulted with their ORLEN MINI ALL4 Racing, Poland’s Krzysztof Holowczyc and his Belgian co-driver Jean-Marc Fortin came fourth, with the two Portuguese Ricardo Leal dos Santos / Paulo Fiuza in the red Monster Energy MINI ALL4 Racing and Russian-German pairing Leonid Novitskiy / Andi Schulz in the orange sister car finishing fifth and eighth respectively.

Today’s special stage once again was split into two parts: the first featured a distance of about 400 kilometres, the second’s distance amounted to 90 kilometres – and they were split by a 129-kilometre liaison section. Several problems, such as heavy rain and construction sites, forced the organisers to subject the road book – at short notice – to several alterations. The track itself once again featured numerous rocky sections. “Nonetheless, driving today was nicer,” said Peterhansel. “The first part of the second section was particularly technical – it definitely was big fun.” Only in the closing stages, the drivers had to cope with a short section with sand and dunes.

Although Peterhansel once again didn’t get much of the sand he would have preferred, he defended his lead in the overall standings by finishing runner-up. And he did so although having lost several minutes due to a puncture. “We were power sliding and I saw the stone before we hit it,” revealed Peterhansel. “I hoped we would be able to avoid it but fractions of a second later, there was the bang.”

Having been the quickest yesterday, Roma kept on delivering in great style by finishing third. Gordon succeeded in passing him in the early stages of the first section and from that point in time, the Spaniard was hampered by the US-American’s dust. “We were driving right into the wind and the dust of cloud was enormous,” explained Roma. “This situation cost us several minutes.” Nonetheless, he defended his fourth position in the overall standings.

With just 20 kilometres to go, Holowczyc and Fortin encountered an exciting incident. At a crossing they had taken the wrong turn but the spectators lead them back to the right track. When the Pole wanted to drive onto it, they hit a step and the car rolled onto its roof. “The step was invisible for us,” said Fortin. “Fortunately, we were able to put the MINI back on its wheels to continue, afterwards.” The MINI ALL4 Racing survived the incident virtually unharmed, with a broken outside mirror and a flaw in the windscreen representing the only visible consequences of the adventure.

Portuguese pairing Dos Santos / Fiuza completed the special stage without any major problems but also lost some minutes due to a puncture – and the same applied to their team-mates Novitskiy and Schulz. “The second section went great, for us,” said the German. “Unfortunately, the first wasn’t too good. I think that the special stages today and tomorrow will be tough, for us.”

The two Russians Alexander Mironenko and Sergey Lebedev took their BUER BMW X3 CC to 15th position in today’s special stage and currently hold 16th in the overall standings.
