Krzysztof Holowczyc gewinnt die fünfte Etappe nach Fiambala

Die fünf MINI ALL4 Racing platzieren sich in den Top 6 der Tageswertung

Ein starke Mannschaftsleistung zeigte das X-raid Team auf der fünften Etappe von Chilecito nach Fiambala. Das polnisch, belgische Duo Krzysztof Holowczyc / Jean Marc Fortin sicherten sich im ORLEN MINI ALL4 Racing den Etappensieg vor Robby Gordon im Hummer. Die Plätze drei bis sechs belegen die vier weiteren MINI ALL4 Racing. Die beiden Franzosen Stéphane Peterhansel und Jean-Paul Cottret fuhren im grünen MINI ALL4 Racing die drittschnellste Tageszeit und behaupten die Führung in der Gesamtwertung. Hinter ihnen platzierten sich Nani Roma (ESP)/Michel Perin (FRA) im gelben MINI ALL4 Racing vor dem russisch, deutschen Duo Leonid Novitskiy / Andi Schulz im orangnen MINI ALL4 Racing und den beiden Portugiesen Ricardo Leal dos Santos und Paulo Fiuza im roten MINI ALL4 Racing. Zürich, 6.1.12 Red. (mk) Die Teilnehmer der Dakar starteten heute 25 Kilometer später in die Wertungsprüfung, da starke Regenfälle die Strecke zerstört hatten. Die Niederschläge hatten auch Auswirkungen auf die Dünen. Der feuchte Sand war fester und damit einfacher zu befahren.

Für Krzysztof Holowczyc ist es der erste Etappensieg bei einer Dakar für das X-raid Team. Der Pole war von Beginn der Prüfung an in der Spitzengruppe vertreten. Wenige Kilometer vor Prüfungsende übernahm er die Führung und brachte diese ins Ziel. „Ich freue mich sehr über den Sieg“, strahlt der 49-Jährige. „Nachdem ich gestern nicht so zufrieden mit mir war, lief heute wieder alles perfekt.“

Stéphane Peterhansel hatte eine schwere Aufgabe zu bewältigen. Der Franzose musste nach seinem gestrigen Etappensieg heute die Prüfung eröffnen. In den Dünen und im Sand von Fiambala ein klarer Nachteil. „Die Motorräder sind zudem eine andere Route gefahren, so konnte ich mich an nichts orientieren – die anderen aber an mir“, so Peterhansel. „Deswegen geht das Ergebnis für mich auch in Ordnung.“ Zumal er In der Gesamtwertung weiter führt vor Holowczyc und Roma.

Für den Spanier und seinen Co-Piloten Michel Périn hat die Etappe in Fiambala eine besondere Bedeutung. Hier mussten sie vor zwei Jahren nach einem Unfall frühzeitig aufgeben. „Ich bin sehr glücklich hier zu sein“, freut sich der Spanier. „Wegen dem Vorfall vor zwei Jahren bin ich heute sicherlich etwas vorsichtiger unterwegs gewesen, aber es war wichtig für uns beide anzukommen.“

Novitskiy und Dos Santos komplettierten das sehr gute Ergenbnis für das Monster Energy Xraid Team. Der Russe war über den härten Sand nicht begeistert: „Ich fahre lieber auf weichem Sand. Durch die heutigen Verhältnisse, hat die Strecke an Charme verloren.“ Für das portugiesischen Duo verlief die Etappe ohne Probleme.

Auch das chilenisch, französische Duo Boris Garafulic zeigte mit Rang 17 eine gute Leistung. Die beiden Deutschen Stephan Schott und Holm Schmidt kamen als 20. ins Ziel. „Wir sind heute wieder in aller Ruhe durch die Prüfung gefahren“, so Schott. „Dadurch hatten wirt keinen Platten oder sonstige Probleme, die uns Zeit gekostet hätten.“ Das russische Duo Alexander Mironenko und Sergey Lebedev verloren 40 Minuten als sie im Sand stecken blieben.

Morgen geht es für den gesamten Rallyetross über die Andan ins chilenische Copiapo. Nach einer Verbindungsetappe von 394 Kilometern, führt die 247 Kilometer lange Prüfung die Teilnehmer dirket ins Biwak. Zu Beginn fahren die Piloten noch auf hartem Untergrund bevor sie in die Dünen von Copiapo kommen.

Krzysztof Holowczyc wins fifth special stage to Fiambala

• All the five MINI ALL4 Racing vehicles make it to the top-six in today’s ranking

• Three MINIs ALL4 Racing hold the top-positions in the overall standings

In the fifth special stage, from Chilecito to Fiambala, Team X-raid impressed with a great team performance. With their ORLEN MINI ALL4 Racing, Polish-Belgian pairing Krzysztof Holowczyc / Jean Marc Fortin won the special stage, followed by Robby Gordon’s Hummer, with the positions three to six being secured by the other MINI ALL4 Racing cars. The two Frenchmen Stéphane Peterhansel and Jean-Paul Cottret set the third-fastest time of the day, with their green MINI ALL4 Racing, thus defending their overall lead. Behind them, Nani Roma (ESP) / Michel Perin (FRA) in the yellow MINI ALL4 Racing finished fourth, followed by Russian-German pairing Leonid Novitskiy / Andi Schulz in the orange MINI ALL4 Racing and the two Portuguese Ricardo Leal dos Santos und Paulo Fiuza in the red sister car.

Today’s special stage began 25 kilometres later than scheduled as torrential rain had destroyed parts of the track. And the rain also made an impact on the Dunes. The wet sand was firmer and – consequently – easier to drive on.

For Krzysztof Holowczyc, it was the first Dakar special-stage win as Team X-raid driver. The Pole was among the front runners right from the start, took the lead with just a few more kilometres to go – and defended it until having crossed the finish line. “I’m truly delighted with having won today,” beamed the 49-year old. “Yesterday, I wasn’t too happy with my performance but today, everything was perfect.”

Stéphane Peterhansel had to cope with a difficult task. Having won yesterday’s special stage, he was the first driver who had to go out today. A clear disadvantage in the dunes and the sand of Fiambala. “In addition, the motorbikes took another route and so I had absolutely nothing I could use as orientation - while the others had me,” said Peterhansel. “Therefore, I’m absolutely happy with the result.” After all, he still holds the overall lead, with Holowczyc and Roma following in second and third positions respectively.

For the Spaniard and his navigator, Michel Périn, the special stage at Fiambala had a special significance. Here, an accident forced them into early retirement, two years ago. “I’m really happy to be here,” said Roma. “Due to the accident in 2010, I certainly was slightly more careful than usually but it was our top priority to survive the special stage.”

Novitskiy and Dos Santos completed the outstanding team result of the Monster Energy X-raid Team. The Russian wasn’t too happy about the firm sand. ”I prefer driving on soft sand,” he admitted. “Due to today’s conditions the special stage lost a part of its charm. The Portuguese pairing experienced a trouble-free special stage.

Chilean-French pairing Boris Garafulic / Gilles Picard also delivered in fine style and finished 17th, with their German team-mates Stephan Schott and Holm Schmidt coming 20th. “We once again took it easy today,” said Schott. “Consequently, we hadn’t to cope with punctures or other problems that would have cost us time.” The Russian squad Duo Alexander Mironenko / Sergey Lebedev, however, lost 40 minutes by getting stuck in the sand.

Tomorrow, the entire rally baggage will drive across the Andes to Copiapo, Chile. Following a 394-kilometre liaison section, the 274-kilometre special stage takes the competitors right to the bivouac. At the beginning, the drivers will have the chance of going fast on a firm track but then, it’s back into the Dunes – this time the ones of of Copiapo.
