Der Titel bleibt in Deutschland
THE FEI EUROPEAN REINING CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR SENIORS, JUNIORS AND YOUNG RIDERS
Germany Retain the European Title
They succeeded yet again, the German team consisting of Nico Hoermann, Steffen Breug, Nina Lill and Daniel Schloemer became European Champion for the second time in a row with a total score of 665.5. The Belgian team only four points behind took silver on a score of 661.5 followed by Great Britain in bronze position with a score of 646.5.
It was clear from the onset, that Belgium would be Germany’s toughest competitor yet when their first rider in the ring Jan Boogaerts astride Blue Quick Command scored 218, as opposed to Germany’s first rider Steffen Breug on a score of 214. But Germany was not intimated, and sent out the youngest German team member Nina Lill and her Lena Cielo Jewel to score 222.5 with a very convincing performance. Belgium retaliated with Ann Poels’ ride on ND Whiz N Starlight on a score of 220 equalled by Germany’s Daniel Schloemer astride Star At The Bar. Belgium was in the lead, with two top riders still left to go….
And then the unbelievable happened: after a great presentation of NRHA World Champion Non Pro Cira Baeck (AUT) and her Don Quixote Escapes, Cira lost her left rein after the first stop which resulted in a 0 score.
Nico Hoermann and his mare Sparkles Pretty Gal were the last German combination to go and they gave it everything they had for 223 points leaving Germany on a total score of 665.5. Even Bernard Fonck’s great ride with BA Reckless Chick which resulted in the day’s top score of 223.5 could not alter the final results – Germany would retain the gold medal, for the second time in a row and the third time altogether.
The British team consisting of Doug Allen, Lee Rutter and Tammy Greaves received the bronze medal. Altogether, there were 28 competitors in this division, seven teams plus individual riders from France and Poland.
